The Joomla Media Manager is the central file library for all images, documents, and media on your site. It provides a visual folder browser, drag-and-drop uploads, inline image editing, and direct integration with the content editor — accessible from both the admin panel and the front-end editor.

Accessing

Go to Admin → Content → Media. A folder tree sits on the left; a grid or list of files on the right.

Uploading Files

• Drag and drop — drag files onto the grid to upload to the current folder
• Upload button — browse for files via the toolbar
• Batch uploads — select multiple files at once

Allowed file types and maximum upload size are set in Admin → System → Media → Options.

Organising

• Create subfolders to match your site structure
• Rename, move, and delete files and folders from the toolbar
• Search by filename across all folders

Inline Image Editing

Click any image then the Edit icon to access the built-in editor: crop, rotate, flip, resize, brightness, contrast, and saturation. Save as a new file or overwrite the original.

Inserting into Articles

In TinyMCE click Insert Image to open the Media Manager picker. Configure alt text, alignment, caption, and CSS class before inserting.

File Paths

All files are stored under /images/ by default. Additional source directories can be added in Media Options → File System.
